Jenny Prior
I am a Highly Specialist Paediatric Speech & Language Therapist with 25 years of experience working in the NHS to support children and young people who have a range of speech, language and communication needs.
I have been a licensed Makaton Regional Tutor for over 20 years, training parents, carers and professionals to use the signs and symbols of the Makaton language programme.
I am passionate about helping people to develop their knowledge and use of Makaton, so that they in turn can help others develop their speech, language and communication skills, and create inclusive environments.
I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist (BSc Speech Hons) from Newcastle University in 1999. Working within the NHS I have gained a wealth of experience working with children of all ages in both community and specialist education settings. Working in partnership with parents, carers, education staff teams and early years practitioners is central to the support I provide.
Delivering Makaton training is one of the most rewarding experiences I have had in my career. I have seen first-hand how the use of Makaton can unlock someone’s communication potential, providing them with opportunities to socialise and learn that would not otherwise be possible.
